Week 21 preview: Final playoff push in the 18U division

DIX HILLS, N.Y. — We’ve reached the final full weekend of hockey in the 18U division, and the division could very well be decided in these last few games. It’s all come down to this, who will make the playoffs?

Long Island Royals vs. New York Saints (Elite)

The Long Island Royals are currently slated to be the first seed in the playoffs, but they’re holding onto that lead by a thread. The second place Washington Little Capitals are just one game behind them, so the Royals will have plenty for play for this weekend as they look to secure that invaluable seeding. Meanwhile, the Saints almost assuredly won’t make the playoffs, but can still play spoiler and end their season on a high note with a win over the first place Royals.

Philadelphia Little Flyers vs. Long Island Royals (Elite)

There’ll be no rest for the weary for the Royals as they also play the Philadelphia Little Flyers this weekend. They’ll have to battle to maintain their top seed, but the Flyers will be equally hungry for a win. They find themselves one win out of the playoffs behind the North Jersey Avalanche and will need to play their best hockey (and get a little luck) to beat the top seed and take a playoff spot.

North Jersey Avalanche vs. New Jersey Jr. Titans (Elite)

It goes without saying that the Avalanche will be motivated to pick up some wins this weekend and keep the Flyers off their backs. They’ll have no bigger game than the one against the New Jersey Jr. Titans, who currently occupy third place in the division. The Titans have the opportunity to increase their margin for error in the playoff race and knock off a potential rival in one fell swoop.
