FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – The North American 3 Atlantic Hockey League opens 2017 with five games on the week sixteen schedule, beginning with a matchup between the Central Penn Panthers and the Exton Bulls Saturday afternoon.
NA3AHL Game of the Week
Saturday evening’s matchup between the Metro Fighting Moose and the Long Island Royals will serve as the NA3AHL’s MyHockeyTV.com Game of the Week.
Last Two Standing
With a perfect 24-0 record, the Long Island Royals are one of two remaining unbeaten teams in Tier 3 junior hockey, per Tier3juniorhockey.com. No team in the archived modern-era history of the NA3AHL’s predecessor, the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League, has ever completed a perfect season.
The magic number for the Long Island Royals to win the inaugural NA3AHL regular season championship is 7. Any combination of Long Island wins or Wilkes-Barre/Scranton losses that total seven will result in the Royals winning the President’s Cup. If the teams end up tied, the Royals would win the league’s regular season crown based upon their head-to-head victories over the Knights.
Making Their Point
Returning to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton lineup, forward Jake Fuss (Fairfield, CT) continues to lead the NA3AHL in points with 96 (45G 51A); a four-point edge on fellow Knight Josh Kim (Livonia, NY). Fuss is currently the third leading scorer in Tier 3 juniors and Kim leads all Tier 3 players in goals.
Long Island’s Matthew Araujo (Brookhaven, NY) continues to lead NA3AHL defensemen in points with 44 (19G 25A), which also is tied for seventh among all players (with teammate Anthony Zyller (Hauppauge, NY) and places among the top-60 players in Tier 3 juniors.
Show Me What You Got
The NA3AHL’s inaugural showcase will be held at the Jersey Shore in Wall, New Jersey, January 28-30. NAHL Central Scouting will be in attendance.
