Royals remain perfect, Wildcats collect sweep in week thirteen play

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – The Long Island Royals remained perfect with victories over Exton and the Metro Moose and the Jersey Wildcats picked up four crucial points with a a sweep of Central Penn during week thirteen of the North American 3 Atlantic Hockey League.

As the league resumed full play following the Thanksgiving holiday, Everett Calendine (Bradenton, FL) spun a 17-save shutout and Joe Ferrante (Fair Lawn, NJ) recorded his first hat trick of the season as the Moose downed the Renegades.
Ferrante opened the game’s scoring with the first of his two power-play goals, beating Ryan Creenan (Colonia, NJ) at 6:26 of the first period. Kyle DiLeo (Port Washington, NY) added his third of the season to give the hosts a 2-0 lead at the first intermission. It was all Calendine needed as the Florida native picked up his third win of the season.
Jersey Wildcats 3   Central Penn Panthers 1
Jersey opened their two-game series with Central Penn with a tidy 3-1 victory. Josh Watterson (Sinking Spring, PA) opened the game’s scoring, beating Gabriel Nadell (Short Hills, NJ), 1:40 into the first period. Danny Miller (Newark, DE) kept Jersey off the board, making 17 saves to protect Central Penn’s 1-0 lead.
It was during the second period that Jersey’s James Durante (Mahwah, NJ) took the game over, scoring three consecutive goals to give the Wildcats a 3-1 victory. It was the third hat trick of the season for the forward, who was more than doubled his 2015-16 offensive production.
Long Island Royals 11   Exton Bulls 3
A seven-goal third period broke open a 4-2 game as Long Island recorded its 22nd straight victory with an 11-3 rout of Exton. Anthony Zyller (Hauppauge, NY) and Tyler Murphy (Queens, NY) led the Royals offense with a goal and three assists and Bryan Whelan (Rockville Center, NY), Aiden Boehm (Nesconset, NY) and Michael Walsh (Hicksville, NY) each recorded two goals.
Erik Stager (Myerstown, PA) recorded a pair of goals for Exton.

In the North American 3 Atlantic Hockey League Game of the Week, a three-goal second period snapped a 1-1 tie as Long Island won its 23rd consecutive game with a 5-1 win over the Metro Moose.
After Sergei Pinev (Brooklyn, NY) and Eric Platt (Merrick, NY) exchanged first-period goals, Long Island’s high-powered offense took off in the second period as Keith O’Brien (East Setauket, NY), Matthew Araujo (Brookhaven, NY) and Bryan Whelan scored 2:18 apart to break the game open. Brandon Perrone (Smithtown, NY) made 20 saves to earn the victory. Thomas Sullivan (Floral Park, NY) had 54 saves for the Moose.

Jersey Wildcats 6   Central Penn Panthers 1
In the final game of the weekend, Marc Iandiorio (Morris Plains, NJ) had a pair of goals and Ondrej Smalec (Cranford, NJ) had 34 saves as the Wildcats completed their two-game sweep of Central Penn with a 6-1 victory. Joseph Potente and Stephen Perez (Bloomfield, NJ) combined with Iandiorio to give Jersey a commanding 3-0 lead after one period.
Josh Watterson had the lone Central Penn goal for the second straight game and Garret Baldacci (Fair Lawn, NJ) did his best efforts to keep the Panthers in the game with 49 saves.
