Long Island Gulls Midget U16 National Team Makes an Impression for the AYHL
December 20, 2007
In early November the Long Island Gulls Midget U16 National team participated in the Nike Bauer Invitational Tournament in Chicago, IL. They made an impressive run to the semi-finals where they lost 3-2 in double overtime to Honeybaked.
The Gulls played a great weekend of hockey where they went 5-0 before loosing in the Semi's. With a number of scouts at the event, from the USHL to the OHL to Colleges, the Gulls sent scouts asking what league they were a part of. They were very impressed with the talent and level of play as Long Island competed well against teams from Toronto, California, St.Louis and Madison, WI.
Tyler Gjurich led the Gulls with 10 goals and 4 assists on the weekend followed by Dan Linell with 10 points and Alex Hagen with 7 points. Gjurich was tied for second overall in points in the tournament. It should also be noted that the team that beat the Gulls in the semi's (Honeybaked) also lost in the championship to the Jr. Canadians.
Congratulations on a successful tournament in November and good luck the rest of the season.
