AYHL Alum John Mustard scores game winner in 2024 All-American Game

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — AYHL alum John Mustard emphatically introduced himself to hockey fans around the world on Monday, Jan. 16, as he drilled the game winning goal in the 2024 All-American Game.

The All-American Game features the top prospects for the upcoming 2024 NHL draft facing off against each other. Fans of the AYHL already knew what a special player Mustard is, but this game represented a huge chance for him to establish himself in front of a massive national audience. Opportunity knocked, and Mustard responded by kicking the door down.

The game was all knotted up after three periods and heading to overtime. It was all down to who, with the eyes of the world on them, could make a big play in the biggest moment. Mustard stepped up to the plate. He took a pass from his own blue line the full length of the ice with his blazing speed before finally flicking a nifty wrist shot past the Team Blue goalie win the game for Team White, 5-4.

A native of Oradell, N.J., Mustard first learned the ropes in the AYHL as he played for the North Jersey Avalanche. The skills he honed there have laid the groundwork for an incredible career — he currently leads all USHL rookies in scoring and is currently projected to be selected in this summer’s NHL draft. AYHL couldn’t be prouder of John for serving as a shining example for the next generation AYHL players.
