Atlantic Youth Hockey League

Albert Yin, of Team Maryland died unexpectedly last week. The AMHL would like to give our deepest condolences to his family and friends, please see the statement below from Team Maryland.

On Friday June 29th, the TM family lost one of their own, Albert Yin, in a tragic accident in Switzerland.  Albert was a 2005 birth year Bantam Minor who was entering his third season with Team Maryland.  You could always find Albert at a rink with a smile on his face, he spent countless extra hours at Rockville or Laurel to improve his game.  Albert was a star at Team Maryland partly because of his play but mostly due to his attitude, sense of humor, and fun loving demeanor. Albert was loved and adored by his coaches and teammates. 

“Although Albert was only 13, he lived an extraordinary life, driven by his many passions and love for the people who supported him. He was always there to pick up a brother or sister in their time of need and his selflessness was contagious. He was a brilliant young man as a world class pianist and a straight A student. He was an exceptionally gifted hockey player and skater, but he was an even better teammate. He was humble, caring, loving, and always put his family and teammates before himself.” Bantam Minor Coach Peter Perrella. 

In addition to being an incredible hockey player, Albert was a musical prodigy who performed in concert halls all over the world.  Albert started playing piano when he was five years old and enjoyed traveling with his piano school friends, who grew up as his musical brothers and sisters.  Most recently, he performed at the Culture and Convention Centre in Lucerne where he played the Hungarian Rhapsody by Liszt beautifully and powerfully just one day before the tragedy.

To Albert’s parents, Daxu Yin and HaiYan Jiang and his sister, Maggie, we send our deepest condolences.  We will pray for you daily and please know that you will always have family at Team Maryland.

Albert will truly truly be missed. We love you Albert. Always loved and never forgotten.

Handwritten cards/notes

The Yin family is asking those (coaches and players) that touched Albert's life to hand write a card or note to share their fondest memories with Albert. The family would like to put the notes in Albert's coffin.  For those families who would like to contribute but can’t make a drop-off, please email notes to [email protected]

The Atlantic Youth Hockey League is the USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier I AAA youth hockey league of the Atlantic District. From Connecticut to Maryland, the AYHL’s membership is comprised of over 100 teams, representing four districts, and is spread across six playing divisions. The AYHL’s mission is to develop young players with competition, fun, and good sportsmanship, and move them on to the next phase of their hockey career. With a distinguished alumni list of players that spent a portion of their playing career in the AYHL, today’s players choose to play in the AYHL knowing that it is a proven stepping stone for those serious in their hockey pursuits.
