McCanney signs tender with NAHL's Northeast Generals

OAKS, Pa. (November 22, 2017) – Valley Forge Minutemen 18U forward Liam McCanney has signed a tender agreement with the Northeast Generals of the North American Atlantic Hockey League (NAHL).

In his second season with the Minutemen, the Alden, Pennsylvania native has tallied five goals and six assists in 10 Atlantic Youth Hockey League (AYHL) games. McCanney spent seven seasons with the Philadelphia Little Flyers prior to joining the Minutemen in 2016.

“Liam is a hard-nosed player who never takes a shift off [and has] a clear passion for the game,” head coach Sean Cannon commented. “We look forward to watching him continue to grow as a player, and develop his skills and game with the Generals.”

Beginning his 2016-17 at campaign at 16U before finishing the season in the AYHL’s highest level, McCanney recorded six goals and 20 assists in 26 league games. McCanney also skates with Valley Forge in the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL).

“I would like to thank the Valley Forge Minutemen for their support and help for the past two years,” McCanney said. “They have helped me maintain the confidence needed to obtain a tender offer from the Northeast Generals.”

In just their second season of competition, the Northeast Generals are currently 15-10 and are tied for second in the NAHL’s East Division. The Generals possess the NAHL’s top offense with 90 goals in just 25 games

The Atlantic Youth Hockey League is the USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier I AAA youth hockey league of the Atlantic District. From Connecticut to Maryland, the AYHL’s membership is comprised of over 100 teams, representing four districts, and is spread across six playing divisions. The AYHL’s mission is to develop young players with competition, fun, and good sportsmanship, and move them on to the next phase of their hockey career. With a distinguished alumni list of players that spent a portion of their playing career in the AYHL, today’s players choose to play in the AYHL knowing that it is a proven stepping stone for those serious in their hockey pursuits.
