Release Date : Sept. 30, 2017

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – The Atlantic Youth Hockey League (AYHL) and the Long Island Gulls are pleased to announce the commitment of 16U defenseman Brandon Chabrier (Bayville, N.Y.) to Northeastern University for the 2021-2022 season.

A seven-year player in the AYHL, Chabrier returned to the Gulls organization after a one-year stint with the New Jersey Colonials, where the Bayville, New York native reached the championship game of the 2017 USA Hockey Tier I National Championships, where the Colonials fell to the Chicago Mission.

I am proud and humbled to announce that I have chosen to accept the invitation I have received to attend Northeastern University,” Chabrier said. “Having started as a hockey player with the Long Island Gulls, I spent years learning not only hockey but the value of a team and the rewards that come with hard work. I believe that I have found that same atmosphere at Northeastern. I am looking forward to carrying the skills both personal and professional that I have learned with me into my college career at Northeastern and beyond”.

Chabrier has amassed 119 points in 153 career regular season games in the AYHL, a career that includes stops with the Gulls, Colonials, and the Long Island Royals. Chabrier was named the All-American Defenseman as the top blueliner in the 2017 AYHL Bantam Major Playoffs. The puck-moving defenseman has six points this season.

“We are extremely happy for Brandon and his family,” Gulls 16U head coach Dan Cassano commented. “His skill set and skating ability are attractive assets. When you combine that with his work ethic, positive attitude and leadership on and off the ice, you get what we feel is one of the top defensemen prospects in the country. Northeastern is getting an elite player and an even better young man”.

The Atlantic Youth Hockey League is the USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier I AAA youth hockey league of the Atlantic District.
